Chena Hot Springs has both its charms and drawbacks. The hot springs were definitely the highlight, offering a lovely soaking experience. However, the overall tourist experience felt a bit overwhelming and not as personal as I would have liked. The service left much to be desired, especially given the issues we faced during our stay. While the natural beauty of the place is magnificent, the facilities and some experiences felt quite lacking.

Rooms
5.0
We stayed in a cabin that had some issues. The heat didn't work well, leaving it quite cold at night, and the outhouse was in terrible condition.
Service
5.0
Service was disappointing; they didn't seem equipped to handle our complaints effectively.
Location
8.0
The scenery around Chena Hot Springs is breathtaking and perfect for viewing the auroras, but getting there involved a bumpy ride.
Dining
6.0
Dinner in the restaurant was nice, but we felt it was more of a Tourist Trap rather than a true dining experience.
Facilities
5.0
The hot springs themselves were quite nice, but the locker rooms and showers were not kept clean, which was off-putting.

Chena Hot Springs has some unique experiences to offer, like the geothermal springs and ice museum, but the accommodations and service could use some serious improvement. While the hot springs area is well-maintained and enjoyable, the staff seemed untrained and unresponsive, which detracted from our stay. The dining options are limited, and the pricing feels a bit steep for what you get.

Rooms
6.0
The rooms were comfortable but showing signs of age, with broken shower handles and confusing layouts.
Service
5.0
Service was generally unhelpful and lacked basic training, impacting our overall experience.
Location
7.0
Situated in a remote area, the location is great if you want access to the hot springs but lacks nearby dining options.
Dining

Dining options were fair, but given the captive audience, I expected better quality food and service.
Facilities
8.0
The hot springs and ice museum facilities were well-kept and offered a unique experience.

My stay at Chena Hot Springs was a mixed bag. The location is stunning, especially for soaking in the mineral water during winter. However, I struggled with the room's amenities, particularly the hot water issue. The food at the restaurant was good, but the limited dining options became repetitive after a few days. Overall, it's a charming place but needs some improvements in service and facilities.

Rooms

The room was adequately cleaned but not very clean, and we had issues with water temperature and drainage.

The location is beautiful and perfect for Northern Lights viewing, though it can feel very isolated.
Dining

The dining experience was decent, but with only one restaurant and limited menu options, it felt repetitive with each visit.
Facilities

The hot springs are wonderful, but some facilities need cleaning and maintenance, especially the showers.

Overall, my experience at Chena Hot Springs was quite mixed. While the lodge offered cozy accommodations and a unique opportunity to view the Northern Lights, the lack of proper service and unexpected charges for activities left much to be desired. The hot springs had its charm, but the cleanliness could use some improvement. Even though the restaurant served delicious food, the overall experience was marred by several inconveniences.

Rooms
7.0
The rooms were adequately clean and comfortable, but the lack of air conditioning during warm days made them quite warm. Hot water was not always reliable.
Service
5.0
The service was lacking, especially the manager who seemed untrained in hospitality. We faced issues with shuttle arrangements that could have been managed better.
Location
8.0
Chena Hot Springs is in a remote area, which is ideal for viewing the aurora but comes with a lack of nearby services. The journey to the lodge is somewhat lengthy and bumpy but scenic.
Dining
9.0
The restaurant's offerings were surprisingly good, with fresh vegetables and standout desserts. It definitely elevated our dining experience during the stay.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities had potential, but there were several downsides, including cleanliness issues in the hot springs area that made it less pleasant.

5.2/10

I had high hopes for this place after hearing about the hot springs, but I was disappointed with the overall experience. While the springs were a highlight, the cleanliness and upkeep of the accommodations left much to be desired. Also, for the price, some amenities felt overlooked like a second towel or reliable internet access. Overall, it felt more like a tourist trap than a genuine getaway.

Rooms
5.0
The room was clean, but it was far from comfortable or well-kept. It was cramped, and the temperature control was inadequate.
Service
5.0
While some staff members were friendly, the service was lackluster overall, especially with housekeeping and the front desk being often unresponsive.
Location
7.0
Tucked away in the wilderness, it feels remote and rustic, but is still a drive from Fairbanks. Getting there was safe during winter.
Dining
6.0
The restaurant served good food but was overpriced, especially considering the wait times.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities, including the pool showers, were outdated and poorly maintained, which was disappointing.
